How much time and training are required?

Richmond provides required firefighting and lifesaving classes and lists duty-crew scheduling among its benefits. Members must meet their role’s training and participation requirements. Confirm duty hours, drill attendance and the course schedule with the company before committing.

Who can register interest, and what does EMS involve?

This recruitment form is for Staten Island residents aged 18 or older. You may express interest in firefighting/rescue or EMS. Richmond describes a medical first-response role; do not assume an ambulance-transport assignment. The company will confirm available duties, any certification requirements and final eligibility.

What training and benefits are provided?

Richmond lists uniforms, personal protective equipment and FASNY membership as benefits. FASNY offers training and education resources, scholarship opportunities, credit-union access and other membership benefits. Eligibility and program terms apply; insurance coverage or scholarship awards are not automatic. Ask the company about any applicant costs.

Is training required for my role?

Where will I train?

Most firefighter training for VFANYC members takes place at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy (NCFSA). Members of all eight departments can also access training offered by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), subject to course prerequisites, department authorization and available places. Your chief or training officer coordinates the training appropriate to your role. NCFSA registration is handled by a chief or authorized training officer; EMT training follows a separate approved pathway.

Richmond Engine Company No. 1 is a volunteer fire company serving Staten Island from its Richmondtown firehouse.
